Atkinsons has one of the most colorful histories in British perfumery. The story began in 1799, when young James Atkinson arrived in London carrying his own recipes for fragrances and toiletries and, according to the house's own history, accompanied by a real live bear. He established himself on Gerrard Street in Soho and soon attracted the attention of high society not only through his unusual presence but also through his creations.

By 1826, Atkinson's reputation had grown to the point that King George IV appointed him Official Perfumer to the Royal Court of England. The house later moved into Mayfair and attracted a remarkable clientele drawn from British and European aristocracy. Dandy culture, English eccentricity and the atmosphere of fashionable society became part of the brand's historic DNA.

Today, Atkinsons treats its archives not as museum pieces but as creative material. Historic London is reinterpreted through contemporary luxury, often with humor and eccentricity. It is unmistakably British — aristocratic without being dull, historic without feeling old-fashioned, and always carrying a slightly rebellious edge.
