Women's fragrances CRISTOBAL BALENCIAGA

The name Cristóbal Balenciaga belongs to one of the most revolutionary designers of the twentieth century. Balenciaga was born in 1895 in the fishing town of Getaria in Spain's Basque Country. His father was a fisherman and his mother a seamstress, and through her work he became familiar with fabric, construction and dressmaking from an early age.

He opened a haute couture house in San Sebastián in 1917 and later, following the disruption caused by the Spanish Civil War, moved to Paris, establishing his Maison on Avenue George V in 1937. Unlike many couturiers, Balenciaga personally mastered virtually every technical stage of garment creation, including cutting, draping and fitting. His command of construction was so exceptional that fashion history often describes him as an architect of form rather than simply a designer.

Spanish culture — black clothing, religious dress, flamenco, historic costume and painting — deeply informed his visual language. Fragrance and accessories later helped extend the Balenciaga world to a wider luxury audience.

Cristóbal Balenciaga's legacy is defined by precision, volume, innovation and uncompromising craftsmanship: a vision in which beauty begins with construction.
