Desigual is a Spanish fashion brand built from the beginning around the idea of being different. Thomas Meyer created the label in 1984 in Barcelona's El Raval neighborhood. One of its earliest defining pieces was a jacket constructed from different pairs of used jeans, which the company now identifies as an early example of upcycling within fashion. The name Desigual was suggested by Spanish filmmaker Isabel Coixet together with the phrase “no es lo mismo” — “it's not the same.”

The first store opened in Ibiza's port in 1986, and that Mediterranean sense of freedom became a fundamental part of the brand's cultural identity. Bright colors, patchwork, mixed prints, handcrafted effects and unexpected combinations established a style deliberately opposed to minimalism and conformity. Desigual itself describes its universe as free, authentic, optimistic, unapologetic and Mediterranean.

For Desigual, clothing is more than appearance; it is a tool for changing mood and embracing what makes an individual different.
