DRIES VAN NOTEN

Bold colour combinations, contrasting textures and unexpected juxtapositions define the creative world of DRIES VAN NOTEN. The Belgian designer presented his first menswear collection in 1986, gradually developing an aesthetic in which classical elegance meets vivid colours, floral imagery and a distinctive sense of creative freedom. In 2022, this approach expanded into the world of fragrance.

The fragrance concept centres on translating emotions and impressions into scent. Dries Van Noten's garden in Antwerp and immersion in his creative universe inspired ten internationally renowned perfumers, each given the freedom to interpret the brand's aesthetic in an individual way. The result was an eclectic collection of genderless fragrances that brings traditional perfumery craftsmanship together with contemporary and unexpected ideas.

The olfactory style is defined by a fascination with contrast. Floral, woody, leathery, spicy, earthy and amber-like facets can meet in unusual combinations, creating compositions that feel harmonious yet surprising. Familiar materials acquire a new character, allowing fragrance to become more than a sensory pleasure: it becomes an expression of a creative concept.

Design is as important as the fragrance itself. The bottles draw inspiration from traditional apothecary vessels, while their construction brings together contrasting materials, patterns and textures, including glass, wood, metal and hand-painted porcelain. Each bottle is conceived as an artistic object in its own right, with a visual identity that reflects the contrasts and unexpected pairings found within the fragrance.

DRIES VAN NOTEN also places emphasis on craftsmanship and more responsible production. According to the brand, its fragrance formulas contain at least 85% ingredients of natural origin, and its products are vegan. The glass bottles are designed to be refillable and recyclable. Together, Belgian design heritage, artistic freedom and contemporary perfumery create a distinctive fragrance universe defined by colour, craftsmanship and unexpected harmony.
