Jeanne Lanvin considered perfume a natural part of a woman's personal world, and in 1924 she established Lanvin Parfums near the Champs-Élysées. Its first fragrance reached the United States in 1925, followed in 1927 by a composition created for the 30th birthday of her daughter Marguerite that became an important landmark in French perfume history.

Jeanne's relationship with her daughter had a profound influence on the emotional character of the house.
