Moncler was born in 1952 in the small town of Monestier-de-Clermont near the French Alps. René Ramillon's original objective was not fashionable outerwear but functional clothing capable of protecting people working in severe mountain conditions. Alpinism quickly became central to the brand's story, with Moncler helping develop technical garments for expeditions before mountain performance increasingly merged with fashion styling during the 1970s.

Moncler entered fragrance much later, launching its first scents in 2021 through its global partnership with Interparfums. Alpine heritage naturally became a major creative resource through imagery of cold air, snow, wood, mountains, technology and the ambition to reach higher peaks. Moncler luxury exists in the unusual space between extreme outdoor performance and urban high fashion, and fragrance translates that contrast into a sensory lifestyle.
