Niche Perfume THE MERCHANT OF VENICE

For centuries, Venetian ports welcomed spices, incense, resins, and precious aromatic materials arriving from the East. This history of maritime trade and Venice’s long tradition of perfume craftsmanship form the foundation of The Merchant of Venice.

The house was developed by the Vidal family, whose involvement in perfumery stretches back more than a century. The cultural project took shape in 2013, followed by the official brand launch in 2014, translating Venice’s historic relationship with the East into contemporary fragrance.

A central source of inspiration is the ancient Venetian maritime network known as the “Mude.” These routes brought spices, resins, flowers, and rare aromatic materials to Venice, where local craftsmen transformed them into sought-after creations. This heritage is reflected through floral, woody, spicy, amber, musky, and richly Oriental olfactory directions.

The visual identity is equally rooted in Venice. Bottle shapes and colors draw inspiration from the centuries-old art of Murano glassmaking, giving the fragrances an unmistakably Venetian presence.

Today, The Merchant of Venice represents a refined expression of Italian niche perfumery where history is reinterpreted for the present. Venetian culture, Eastern aromatic traditions, and Italian craftsmanship come together in a rich and distinctive fragrance universe.
