Niche Perfume from Alberto Morillas

Alberto Morillas is a renowned Spanish perfumer who has created some of the most iconic fragrances in the world.

He was born in Seville, Spain, in 1950, and moved to Switzerland at the age of ten. Morillas studied for two years at the School of Fine Arts in Geneva and began his career in perfumery at the age of 20, inspired by a Vogue article about Jean-Paul Guerlain.

In 1970, he joined the Swiss fragrance company Firmenich, where he achieved early success with Must de Cartier in 1975—the first fragrance of the Cartier jewelry house. Since then, he has contributed to the creation of nearly 7,000 fragrances, including CK One by Calvin Klein, Acqua di Giò by Giorgio Armani, Flower by Kenzo Kenzo, Omnia Bvlgari, Panthère de Cartier, and Daisy by Marc Jacobs.

Morillas is also the founder of his independent brand Mizensir, which began with scented candles and later expanded into a full fragrance line. In collaboration with Penhaligon's, he offers a bespoke fragrance service called Bespoke by Alberto Morillas, located at the Harrods Salon de Parfum in London.

Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Prix François Coty in 2003. He currently resides in Geneva, Switzerland, after living in Paris and New York.

Morillas draws inspiration from the Mediterranean, with a particular love for citrus, marine, and floral notes such as jasmine, tuberose, neroli, and orange blossom. He is also inspired by gardens, often spending time in his family garden in Geneva.

“Perfumery is a mirror of society. I am an artist who interprets these emotions,” he says.

Morillas considers fragrance creation to be a deeply personal and creative process. He often works on more than twenty fragrances at the same time and emphasizes the importance of training the sense of smell and building a “scent library.” While he particularly loves the note of rose, he also enjoys exploring different musks and the scent of orange blossom in springtime Seville.
