Carlos Benaïm is a highly respected perfumer who has made significant contributions to the fragrance industry. He was born and raised in Tangier, where his interest in perfumery was influenced by his father, a pharmacist who worked with essential oils. He later studied chemical engineering before beginning his career as a perfumer.
Throughout his career, Benaïm has worked with several renowned fragrance houses, including International Flavors & Fragrances, where he was named Master Perfumer in 2013—the first in the company to receive this title.
He has created fragrances for a wide range of fashion and beauty brands, including Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Givenchy, and Yves Saint Laurent.
Benaïm is known for his ability to uncover “invisible connections” in his compositions, creating fragrances that are both imaginative and harmonious. He values simplicity, considering it an essential quality for any artist or perfumer.
In recognition of his contributions, he has received numerous awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Perfumers in 2004 and the Perfumer of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award from The Fragrance Foundation in 2014.
Beyond his work in perfumery, Benaïm is actively involved in philanthropy. He has been engaged with the International Sephardic Education Foundation for over two decades, becoming its president in 2017. He and his wife, Dr. Darell M. Benaïm, also established a scholarship fund at Ben-Gurion University.
