Caroline Dumur is a perfumer at IFF, and her passion for fragrances can be traced back to her childhood spent on her grandparents’ farm in northern France. She was surrounded by the scents of flowers, cheese, hay, and animals, which awakened her sense of smell and sparked her fascination with the world of perfumery.
During her childhood, Caroline became familiar with the various perfumes worn by the women in her life and remembered each olfactory impression for years to come. Her parents, both editors, introduced her to biographies of master perfumers and the history of perfumery, strengthening her desire to become a perfumer.
Caroline followed her passion by earning a degree in fragrances and aromas, and then enrolling at ISIPCA to obtain her master’s degree. For her, perfume is the realization of an idea created through the instinctive blending of different materials, and each composition bears the imprint of its creator.
Her preference for certain materials is her main source of inspiration, and she is not afraid of challenges. Caroline embraces bold, dark, and mysterious combinations. She often quotes Ingres, whom she deeply admires, and appreciates his work with textures and his stylistic freedom, which leads to something truly real and beautiful. For Caroline, it is all a matter of interpretation—doing things her own way and using her personal perception.
Overall, Caroline is intuitive, mysterious, and highly perceptive, and her compositions are filled with diverse colors and materials that evoke emotions and sensations. She is always ready for a challenge, and her love for warm, freshly distilled materials continues to inspire her to this day. Caroline strives for high goals in her career and, as she likes to say, “Aim for the moon; even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”
