Christopher Sheldrake is a renowned perfumer in the fragrance industry. He was born in the United Kingdom and showed a love for the arts from an early age. Sheldrake studied art history in college, and after graduating, he traveled extensively around the world, immersing himself in different cultures and forms of artistic expression. It was during these travels that he discovered his passion for perfumery.
In the early 1980s, Sheldrake moved to Paris, where he began his career in the fragrance industry. He worked for companies such as Quest and Shiseido before joining the legendary perfume house Serge Lutens in 1992. Under Lutens’ mentorship, Sheldrake developed a deep understanding and appreciation for the art of fragrance creation.
Together, Sheldrake and Lutens created some of the most iconic and beloved fragrances in the niche perfume world. Sheldrake played a key role in crafting Lutens’ signature scents, including the dark and mysterious Ambre Sultan and the sensual, exotic Chergui. His creativity and technical mastery helped push the boundaries of traditional perfumery, and his collaboration with Lutens contributed to establishing them as pioneers of modern niche perfumery.
In 2012, Sheldrake joined Chanel as an in-house perfumer. His work at Chanel includes the creation of iconic fragrances such as Coco Noir, a modern interpretation of the classic Coco scent. He continues to innovate and push boundaries in his work with Chanel, bringing his unique artistic vision to the brand’s fragrances.
Throughout his career, Sheldrake has remained committed to using the highest-quality ingredients and original techniques to create truly unique and memorable scents. He has earned a reputation as both a master perfumer and an artist, and his contributions have played a significant role in shaping modern perfumery.
