Hamid Merati-Kashani is a well-known perfumer currently working at Firmenich. Born in Germany to an Iranian father and a German mother, he spent his childhood in Isfahan, Iran, surrounded by rose fields, which strongly influenced his interest in perfumery.
He describes himself as “Iranian in education and German in organization,” and his cultural background has shaped his professional approach.
Hamid is deeply committed to his clients and believes in Firmenich’s motto: “think of the consumer.” He is a natural collaborator and values learning from others. He believes that a successful person should be a role model and is always willing to share his knowledge and experience. He also strongly believes in giving back, saying that if you have more than you need, you should share it.
Throughout his career, he has worked with major fragrance brands including Carolina Herrera, Jean Paul Gaultier, Valentino, and Yves Saint Laurent.
He has a special connection to the Middle East, where, in his view, consumers have developed a unique olfactory culture. He says, “The Middle East has developed its own olfactory culture, and there the client teaches me.”
His most successful creations include Parfums de Marly Layton, Pegasus, and Percival. He continues to work with dedication, creating distinctive and memorable fragrances while constantly learning from his clients.
