Jean-Michel Duriez

Jean-Michel Duriez is a Master Perfumer who has established himself in the perfume industry through his commitment to creating fragrances that balance rigor and instinct, subtlety and a unique signature, resulting in modern classicism. He founded the House of Jean-Michel Duriez Paris, one of the very few perfume houses launched by a Master Perfumer under his own name.

Duriez's fragrances are known for their elegance, achieved by working with the finest ingredients in optimal concentrations. He places great importance on the quality of his raw materials, which he believes play a major role in the grand architecture of his scents. "Perfume is a liquid emotion; our lives vibrate with its waves," he says, summarizing his love for the profession.

Duriez's journey to becoming a Master Perfumer began at a young age, composing blends of mint and rose petals gathered in the family garden. He nurtured this delicate sensitivity year after year, which naturally led him to the profession of perfume composer. In 1986, he became a "nose" and served as the perfumer for the house of Jean Patou, and later for Rochas. He has created numerous fragrances for Jean Patou, Yohji Yamamoto, Lacoste, Escada, Dolce & Gabbana, and Rochas.

One of Duriez's driving forces is his quest for perfection. He works only with the best raw materials, using them in optimal concentrations for each creation. He believes that perfume targets the intimate being and explores the power of scent far beyond the sense of smell. "I do not create fragrances, I create memories," he says.

In 2016, after 30 years in major houses, Duriez decided to take a risk and launch his own perfume house. The House of Jean-Michel Duriez Paris offers creations rich in emotion, made from the finest raw materials. One of his recent collections, the W/OOD collection, is a purist and authentic act that allows the raw material to move and touch us with minimal alteration.

Duriez's love for passing on knowledge is evident in his decision to train two young perfumers, becoming a Master Perfumer in the process. His creations inspire and stimulate emotions, creating memories that last a lifetime.
