Joanne Lesley Malone CBE is a British perfumer and entrepreneur, best known as the founder of Jo Malone London and Jo Loves, two highly successful fragrance companies. Born on November 5, 1963, in London, Malone had a difficult childhood due to severe dyslexia and her mother's illness, which forced her to leave school at the age of 13 to care for her mother.
Despite early challenges, Malone fell in love with fragrances and began her career in the beauty industry at the age of 20, working as a facialist and creating her own scented products. In 1990, she founded Jo Malone London and launched her first fragrance, Nutmeg & Ginger, which quickly became a bestseller.
Malone's unique approach to scents, including creating fragrances that can be combined and layered, led to a loyal following and attracted the attention of the beauty industry. In 1999, she sold Jo Malone London to Estee Lauder for an undisclosed sum but continued to work within the company as creative director until 2006.
In 2011, Malone launched Jo Loves, a new fragrance company focused on more unusual scents and packaging. The company quickly gained a cult following and expanded into a wide range of bath, body, and home products. Over the years, Malone has received numerous awards, including an MBE in 2008 and a CBE in 2018. In addition to fragrances for Jo Loves and Jo Malone London, she has created many magnificent scents for Zara.
