John's interest in fragrance began early; he has dedicated his career to understanding the complex blend of science and art required to create new perfumes. His business, The Cotswold Perfumery, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016 and continues to supply exquisite fragrances for the niche market from his production plant in Bourton-on-the-Water.

His reputation as a master perfumer makes John sought after by clients worldwide. His blends are sold in exclusive stores such as Selfridges, and are worn by celebrities ranging from Yoko Ono to Donatella Versace. In addition to being widely respected for his ability to create bespoke fragrances for individual clients, John has achieved enviable success in the commercial market, with one fragrance valued at 25 million pounds.

John is a full member of the International Society of Perfumer-Creators, the British Society of Perfumers (BSP), and the International Fragrance Association (IFRA UK). The Royal Society of Chemistry has granted him Chartered Chemist status.
