Maurice Roucel

Maurice Roucel is a highly acclaimed French perfumer with a career spanning over four decades. Born in Cherbourg, France, in 1946, Roucel discovered his love for fragrances at a young age, inspired by the seaside scents of sunscreens and local beach stalls.

Roucel began his professional career as a chemist at the Chanel laboratory in 1973, where he spent six years studying the art of Haute-Parfumerie under the direction of Henri Robert. After working with Quest International, he joined Symrise in 1996, where he currently serves as a Master Perfumer. He is known for his unique blend of creativity and expertise, which has earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Prix Francois Coty in 2002 and several FiFi Awards.

Roucel's work is characterized by an opulent sensuality, achieved through his preference for musk, white flowers, and amber. In 2011, he was honored as a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres for his significant contributions to the fragrance industry. Some of his most iconic creations include Musc Ravageur for Frederic Malle, 24 Faubourg for Hermes, and L'Instant de Guerlain. Despite his immense success, Roucel remains humble, continuing to find inspiration in the people and moods he encounters daily.
