Niche Perfume from Pierre Bourdon

Pierre Bourdon was born in 1946 in Paris. Initially a student of political science, he eventually decided to follow his passion for perfumery. In 1971, he met the legendary Edmond Roudnitska in the South of France—a providential meeting that led him to train for five years at Roure in Grasse under the mentorship of Roudnitska and Jean Carles.

After completing his studies, he joined Roure Paris, focusing on personal care products like creams and deodorants. Following a year in the USA, he created the hit fragrance Kouros for Yves Saint Laurent in 1981. In 1982, he co-founded Takasago Europe, serving as chief perfumer for nine years. It was there that he created Davidoff Cool Water, a revolutionary scent that redefined fragrance trends in the 1980s.

A decade later, Bourdon became the creative director at Quest before being appointed CEO of the French branch of Fragrance Resources. Under his leadership, the company expanded into luxury fragrances, and in 1995, he created Dolce Vita for Parfums Christian Dior. His illustrious career includes iconic works such as Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois, Creed Green Irish Tweed, and Montblanc Individuel. More recently, he has crafted perfumes for Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle and MDCI.

As the sole protégé of Edmond Roudnitska, Bourdon was deeply inspired by the philosophy that perfumery should be treated as a fine art. He possesses an exceptional talent for capturing a brand’s essence and translating its values into evocative scents, such as the exquisite Iris Poudre, the very first fragrance for Frederic Malle's house. Pierre Bourdon's legacy is cemented by his immense influence on the industry and the generations of perfumers he has inspired.
