EX NIHILO is a French niche fragrance house founded in Paris in 2013 by Sylvie Loday, Olivier Royère and Benoît Verdier. The three founders brought together experience in luxury, a strong interest in contemporary art and a desire to approach high perfumery without being constrained by inherited conventions. The Latin name itself reflects this philosophy: creating something new “from nothing.”

From the outset, EX NIHILO adopted a collaborative creative model. Rather than relying on one fixed house signature, the brand gives different perfumers considerable freedom to interpret each concept in their own way. This allows individual creations to develop distinct personalities while retaining a contemporary Parisian sensibility.

Its approach combines exceptional natural materials with new-generation aroma molecules, biotechnology-derived ingredients and modern extraction techniques. Florals, woods, musk, amber, fruits, green notes and spices can appear in remarkably clean and luminous forms or in richer, more contrasting interpretations. The intention is not simply to reproduce classical perfumery, but to reshape familiar materials through a modern lens.

Personalization is another important part of the EX NIHILO identity. In selected boutiques, high-precision technology can be used to adjust certain facets of existing compositions, creating a more individualized version for the wearer.
