GIVENCHY

Givenchy is a historic French haute couture house founded in Paris in 1952 by Hubert de Givenchy, who was only twenty-four at the time. He introduced a relatively new attitude to postwar luxury through clean lines, lightness, refined femininity and clothing that could exist more naturally in the life of a modern woman. From its earliest years, the Maison developed the balance between classic refinement and innovation that would become a defining part of the Givenchy identity.

One of the house's most important cultural relationships was Hubert de Givenchy's long friendship and creative collaboration with Audrey Hepburn. The designer helped shape her celebrated cinematic image, while Hepburn's natural grace became an ideal expression of Givenchy femininity. During the 1950s, the Maison also extended its couture vision into fragrance and beauty, where scent could be understood as a kind of invisible couture made for the personality.
