Hermès is one of the rare French luxury houses whose nearly two-century history remains fundamentally rooted in craftsmanship. The story began in Paris in 1837, when Thierry Hermès opened a workshop specializing in harnesses and equestrian equipment. His work was valued not only for durability but for remarkable lightness, precision and refinement. Later generations expanded the Maison into travel goods, leather, silk, fashion and numerous other métiers while preserving a central belief: beauty should be inseparable from function and exceptional workmanship. Hermès remains an independent family house today, with material, human skill and knowledge passed from generation to generation at the center of its identity.

The Hermès fragrance story began in 1951. The house approached perfume with the same seriousness it brought to leather or silk, treating fragrance as a creative métier in its own right. Jean-Claude Ellena became the house perfumer in 2004, while Christine Nagel later continued this authorial tradition. Their work reflects a wider Hermès philosophy: complexity concealed within apparent simplicity, together with curiosity about nature, travel, literature, materials and subtle sensory impressions.

Hermès luxury is rarely about obvious display. It comes from extraordinary materials, exact proportion, time and the ability of an object to remain meaningful for years.
