HUNQ

HUNQ is a contemporary niche fragrance brand from Amsterdam, founded in 2021 by Korean designer Hyun Yeu. Before moving into perfumery, Yeu worked in menswear, making the male body, fabrics, colors, shapes and ideas of masculine beauty natural material for his fragrance project. At the center of HUNQ is a deliberately playful question: what does a man smell like? From that question emerged a house exploring masculine attraction not through a rigid stereotype of strength, but through fantasy, chemistry and imagination.

The most recognizable element of HUNQ is its use of masculine archetypes. Occupations and physical environments become material for building characters: manual work, wood, plants, sunshine, sea air, metal, nightlife and the natural presence of the human body. Hyun Yeu is less interested in reproducing these environments literally than in imagining the olfactory aura of a particular type of man and what might make that character attractive. Even the brand's language around pheromones and “chemistry” functions primarily as a playful exploration of attraction. HUNQ is conceived in Amsterdam, while its fragrances are associated with the perfume-making culture of Grasse.

The HUNQ universe is masculine yet playful. It avoids presenting masculinity as heavy, formal or aggressively macho, choosing instead sensuality, humor, fantasy and greater freedom in how male beauty can be imagined. It is a distinctly contemporary form of European niche perfumery in which concept and character matter as much as composition, and fragrance becomes a kind of flirtation with an imagined personality.
