Gabriela Chelariu is a well-known perfumer currently associated with Firmenich, one of the world’s leading fragrance and flavor companies. She was born and raised in a small town in Romania, where changing seasons and natural scents inspired her to pursue a career in perfumery.

She recalls: “Spring was a mix of lingering snow, new plant shoots, and wet earth. In June, the linden blossom would bloom; I knew summer was approaching. In winter, I remember my mother’s scent when she came in from the cold—musky and cool.”

After studying pharmacy, her first experience in the fragrance industry came during her final year of studies, when she worked in a research laboratory focused on aromatic chemicals, and later visited Grasse. It was there that she truly understood the role of a perfumer and realized this would be her life path.

Gabriela’s connection to nature has remained constant, and her childhood memories continue to influence her creative work. As she says, “My upbringing still influences how I create. My earliest scent memories are still powerful.”

Over the years, she has worked with many well-known brands, including Abercrombie & Fitch, AllSaints, Avon, Bath & Body Works, Calvin Klein, Escada, Guess, Jennifer Lopez, Michael Kors, Nest, Ralph Lauren, Rituals, and Victoria’s Secret, among others.

She is proud of her work and considers it a privilege to create fragrances that touch people’s lives. “Connecting my past with my present and using those memories to touch people’s lives through my creations is the ultimate privilege,” she says.

Through her talent, experience, and dedication, Gabriela Chelariu has become a highly respected perfumer and a key figure in the fragrance industry.
