Gerard Anthony is a well-known perfumer with more than 50 years of experience in the fragrance industry. Born in 1944, he did not come from a perfumer family. However, at the age of 14, while working in Grasse during the summer, he discovered his passion for perfumery. The scent of jasmine mixed with the morning air fascinated him, and he knew he wanted to create fragrances.
At 17, he began working as a laboratory technician at Lautier, where he studied raw materials and their use in perfumery. He referred to these materials as his “friends” and “allies” for his compositions.
In 1966, he discovered the iconic fragrance L’Eau Sauvage, which inspired him to begin creating his own perfumes.
He later worked at Dragoco, then moved to Paris to further refine his craft. In 1974, he received the Young Perfumer Award from the Société Technique des Parfumeurs, recognizing his talent and dedication.
He then joined Naarden, where he created Azzaro pour Homme in 1978, which remains a classic masculine fragrance. Later, he spent over 20 years at Firmenich, where he created many successful perfumes, including XS pour Homme by Paco Rabanne (1993), and built strong professional ties with Jean-Paul Guerlain.
Today, Gérard Anthony is part of the creative team at Jean Niel, where he continues to share his knowledge and passion for perfumery. He has worked with many brands including Alain Delon, Balenciaga, Hugo Boss, Lalique, Paco Rabanne, and Sonia Rykiel.
His contribution to the fragrance world has been significant, making him a highly respected figure in the industry.
