Linda Pilkington began her perfumery career by creating a “perfectly scented candle” commissioned by a leading luxury brand. In 2001, she founded her own brand, Ormonde Jayne. Since then, Ormonde Jayne fragrances have become leaders in the niche British perfume market. The perfumer uses only unique, natural, and rare ingredients.
At first, Linda was ridiculed when she revealed that Canadian hemlock was included in one of her early fragrances, as these resinous, woody notes had never been used in perfumery before. However, she chose to incorporate them because their nuances offered something different from traditionally used ingredients.
Despite numerous offers to acquire the brand or invest in it, Linda Pilkington firmly decided to keep the perfume house independent. The scale of a small, private company suits her, as it ensures the highest standards of craftsmanship. The black and orange boxes of Ormonde Jayne have the potential to conquer the world, but Linda prefers gradual and steady growth over fast but risky expansion.
