Annick Goutal

Annick Goutal was a woman of many talents and passions. Born in France in 1946, she showed early musical talent and became an accomplished pianist, winning awards and performing on prestigious stages. Over time, however, she left music behind and pursued a career in modeling.

It was in Grasse—the heart of French perfumery—that she discovered her true calling. There, she met Henri Sorsana, who recognized her talent and took her under his wing. Annick spent seven years training under his guidance, learning to memorize scents, understand ingredients, and develop her creative style.

In 1977, she opened her first boutique in Paris, offering just three fragrances: Folavril, Passion, and Eau d’Hadrien. The latter became her most iconic creation, inspired by Emperor Hadrian and beloved by celebrities.

In 1980, she founded Annick Goutal. She carefully controlled production and distribution, maintaining exclusivity and individuality in her creations. Today, the brand’s boutiques can be found worldwide.

Sadly, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in the mid-1990s and passed away in 1999 at the age of 53. She left behind a legacy of around 25 fragrances and a strong creative spirit.

Her daughter, Camille Goutal, continues her work alongside Isabelle Doyen, creating new fragrances while honoring her mother’s passion for perfumery.
